Donovan Brooks, CFP®, CKA®

Senior Financial Planner

Donovan and Amy Brooks with their children

About

Donovan serves Greater Than Financial as a senior financial planner. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and a Certified Kingdom Advisor®, and he shares the firm's commitment to fee-only, evidence-based, fiduciary financial advice.

Donovan earned dual degrees in financial services and financial management from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville in 2011, so the part of the world Greater Than Financial serves is the part of the world he knows. He has spent his career as a financial planner, working with families and individuals through the major decisions that shape a financial life, and he chose planning over selling products because he wanted to do work that puts the client's interest first.

His work helps us serve more families in Northwest Missouri without compromising the attention every client should receive. He works with new client relationships and coordinates with Wakefield on existing households where a second senior planner makes sense for the complexity or the generational handoff.

What Donovan believes

Donovan's approach to money is grounded in stewardship: the conviction that God owns it all and we are simply stewards of what we have been given, and that your wealth is not your worth. He helps clients hold money in its proper place, as a tool in service of a life that matters, and he emphasizes education, collaboration, and investing in experiences and people over the accumulation of things.

That conviction sits comfortably alongside the firm's investment philosophy. Like Wakefield, Donovan believes in production over prediction, evidence-based investing, and plain-English planning. He chose to join GTF because the firm's approach matches his own.

How Donovan will work with clients

Donovan will serve clients across the firm's service lines: ongoing comprehensive financial planning and investment management, hourly and project consulting, and the occasional institutional engagement.

Like Wakefield, Donovan works within GTF's fee-only advisory model. His compensation for advisory services through GTF comes from client fees, not product commissions.

What Donovan brings

  • Local roots. A Northwest Missouri State graduate who knows the families, farms, and small businesses this firm is built to serve.
  • Added capacity. A senior financial planner lets the firm take on new relationships and deepens the bench, so every client has planning continuity regardless of life events.
  • The same philosophy. Production over prediction, evidence-based investing, and stewardship-minded planning, fully aligned with how GTF already works.
  • Cross-coverage.Wakefield and Donovan will back each other up on client calls, reviews, and urgent questions, so clients never wait on a single advisor's schedule when something needs an answer.

Life outside the office

Donovan and his wife, Amy, have four children: EveLynn, Noah, Simon, and Charlie. Outside of work he spends most of his time with family, and he enjoys strength training, board games, podcasts, and reading.
